    Description

    Antique Mauchline Ware Flirting Mirror
    Scottish *
    Circa 1890
    This little antique mirror is
in a frame carved of sycamore wood and was
    made by
the W. & A. Smith Co. in Mauchline Scotland
    .
One side has a transfer picture entitled "Castle Hill & Seaford Bay, Newhaven". The other side says "Entrance To Newhaven Harbour". Newhaven is on the south coast of England, just east of Brighton
It has a brass pivot and it swings open to show the mirror. Carrying one to peek at a beau without being overly obvious was a charming Victorian social practice. If light reflecting off of it attracted his attention, so much the better. T
he mirror is missing tiny bits of the silvering, but the overall condition is excellent without any damage to the case. The varnish is perfect and it measures 2" by
2 5/8". It would be fun to drop into an evening purse.
I stand behind everything that I offer and
    guarantee
that it is exactly as presented.
