Large Vintage EXETER Oxford Felt Banner Maroon & White Lettering & Border - Rare
Fabulous Piece in Great Condition - Size 32-1/2” X 17” - Must See
DESCRIPTION:
This large “EXETER” Oxford maroon and white rectangular felt banner.  Capital letters and white bordering appear to be hand stitched using a machine.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exeter College was founded in 1314 by Walter de Stapeldon of Devon, Bishop of Exeter and later treasurer to Edward II, as a school to educate clergy. To this day, the school is still situated in its original location on Turl Street in the U.K..  During its 1st century, it was known as Stapeldon Hall and was significantly smaller, with just twelve to fourteen students. The college grew significantly from the 15th century onward. The College motto is "Floreat Exon.", meaning "Let Exeter Flourish"
IDENTIFYING MARKS, SIGNATURES OR WORDING:
Evidence of a manufacturer label can be seen on the back, too much of it is missing to determine the maker.  However, it is most likely a “Keezer” company from N.H., pennant.  Keezer made most of the felt pennants and banners from the 1928 to 1985. The remnant of a label, the materials and sewing techniques used suggest this banner was made in the 1950s. See pictures.
CONDITION:
Very good+, has expected age and use patina, has a few small holes- mostly dotted around the edges. See pictures for condition accuracy.  I purposely over-exposed the last image of the back of banner so color and stitching can be better observed.
APPROXIMATE SIZE:
32-1/2 inches wide by 17 inches tall.

Connecticut estate sale.
