    Description

Large (42 x 28) lovely terrain & transport map of Islay (pronounced EYE-luh), the southernmost of Scotland’s Inner Hebrides island chain, known as the “Queen of the Hebrides” and a major area for the distilling of Scotch whisky, with nine active distilleries (Ardbeg, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin and Laphroaig), and neighboring Kintyre, the peculiarly-shaped peninsula, famed in song (“Mull of Kintyre”) by Sir Paul McCartney (a long-term part-time resident of the scenic area on Scotland’s wild west coast), as well as the (probably apocryphal) Mull of Kintyre test by the British Board of Film Classification (look it up).
The map features the 240-square mile Islay (home to 3,200 full-time residents); Kintyre on the mainland (another Scotch whisky producing region); as well as a number of other nearby islands (Jura, Colonsay, Gigha) (from Bartholomew, 1977).
