Mauchline Photographic Ware Lge. Jewelry Box w/Lock No Key Photo Stirling Castle

I have the honor and privilege of selling the collection of an avid and discerning collector of Mauchline Ware consisting of transfer, checker, Parian and tartan ware with a smattering of a few other finishes. I will be listing them in bite size batches over the next several months so that over time collectors can absorb the depth and breadth of the collection. This gentleman amassed an amazing collection of pieces, some of which I have never seen before and I have seen many collectors' collections over the years. This large box, which because it has a lock, for which there is no key, I am assuming was some sort box meant for valuables such as jewelry, has a large photo of Stirling Castle.
However, for reasons unknown to me, the
escutcheon was placed over the following writing; Bought in The Douglas Room of The Royal Palace of Stirling, followed by this verse, Ye Towers Within Whose Circuit Dread A Douglas by His Sovereign Bled.
The box itself is in excellent overall condition, despite the staining of the paper lining inside and I see no other obvious damage or wear.

It measures 10" long and it is 2" in width at the bottom. White spots, if any, are camera glare.
