I have the honor and privilege of selling the collection of an avid and discerning collector of Mauchline Ware consisting of transfer, checker, Parian and tartan ware with a smattering of a few other finishes. I will be listing them in bite size batches over the next several months so that over time collectors can absorb the depth and breadth of the collection. This gentleman amassed an amazing collection of pieces, some of which I have never seen before and I have seen many collectors' collections over the years. Wells House is a large former hydropathic establishment and hotel in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, England, now used as private apartments. It was built in 1854–56 to a design by the architect Cuthbert Brodrick and is a Grade II listed building. One end of the ruler open up to a small compartment, but I cannot open up the other end, the one that is broken, if indeed it was designed to open.
The item is in excellent overall condition, with the exception of a section of the right side handle having been broken off as seen in the photos, but I see no other damage or wear. Nonetheless, please peruse the photographs to assess the condition of the piece before bidding.
