    Description

    I have the honor and privilege of selling the collection of an avid and discerning collector of Mauchline Ware consisting of transfer, checker, Parian and tartan ware with a smattering of a few other finishes. I will be listing them in bite size batches over the next several months so that over time collectors can absorb the depth and breadth of the collection. This gentleman amassed an amazing collection of pieces, some of which I have never seen before and I have seen many collectors' collections over the years. This rather large sized pencil holder/rolling ledger rule
    has two detailed transfers on each end; Hoggs Monument, St. Mary's Loch and Moffat Mineral Well.
    Hoggs monument was unveiled in 28 June 1860 in honor of The Ettrick Shepherd, James Hogg, a local poet, novelist and essayist who lived 1770- 21 November 1835.
    He worked as a shepherd from the age of 7 and self educated himself, publishing his literature whilst working on the land during his lifetime.
    The statue overlooks one of his favorite spots overlooking both lochs and also the now closed Tibbie Shiels Inn where he would meet his friend, Sir Walter Scott
    .
    The item is in excellent overall condition, with the exception of a scrape to the finish underneath the mineral well transfer, but I see no other damage or wear. Nonetheless, please peruse the photographs to assess the condition of the piece before bidding. It measures  12.75" long and it is 7/8" in diameter. White spots, if any, are camera glare.
