    Description

Large (40 x 34) official foldout map of the eastern half of London, one of the world’s great cities, from the British Ordnance Survey, one of the world’s great mapmakers. The land use & transport map covers London from the City, east along the Thames all the way to Gravesend, south to Croydon and Orpington, north from Enfield to Billericay. Showing built-up areas, public parks prominent institutions & landmarks, as well as major streets, roads and rail lines. The map is from 1984, so there’s been some suburban development since then, particularly along the southeastern (Bromley, Bexley and Kent) and northeastern (Romford, Redbridge and Essex) edges of the area shown. The M-25, London’s American-style metropolitan beltway, was mostly built by then, as was the Thames Barrier, the modernist floodgates across London’s great tidal estuary.
